Description
Original ancient Greek silver coin drachm issued by Philip II and Alexander III in the 3BC, minted in an uncertain imitation mint. The coin measures 16-17mm (0.63-0.67 inch) in diameter and has an original patina and tone. The coin is a barbarous (barbarian) issue, possibly from the Celts of the Danube, Eastern Europe, or another uncertain tribe. The obverse of the coin features a stylized head of Alexander the Great facing right, wearing a crested Athenian helmet, while the reverse depicts a lion leaping right with a blundered Greek legend above and beneath it and a spear head below. This coin is a rare and unique find, with a reference to similar coins in Sear 6819, Mueller 113, Forrer/Weber 2731, and SNG Copenhagen 1149. The authenticity of this coin is guaranteed, with a COA included.
